All students undertake an independent research project, which culminates in a dissertation of 20,000 words or a report of 10,000 words. Either the dissertation or the report can be part-production based, in which case the production element replaces 50% of the wordcount.

Graduates of this programme are currently working across a broad range of areas. Some are working as teachers in primary, secondary schools and further and higher education, while others have jobs as within areas related to digital media. Graduates can also be found working as museum and gallery education officers and in other informal learning spaces.

Employability

The course provides students with skills relevant to media work in a wide variety of employment contexts, including education, museums and galleries, social media, cultural organisations. It provides experience of digital media production relevant to these contexts, but not professional production training for the media industries.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a second-class UK Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g. media studies, cultural studies, art, education, digital media, interactive media, English. Applicants with a minimum of a second-class UK Bachelor’s degree and at least one year’s experience within the fields of education, media and /or the cultural industries will also be considered.

English language requirements

If your education has not been conducted in the English language, you will be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level of English proficiency.

The English language level for this programme is: Good

 

Standard level: Overall grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the subtests.

Good level: Overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests.

Advanced level: Overall grade of 7.5 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests.

Graduate programmes

Entry to graduate programmes at UCL usually requires either an upper second-class (2:1) or a lower second-class (2:2) undergraduate degree. Please note entry to some doctoral programmes (e.g. MPhil/PhD) will also require a Master’s degree. The entry requirements for individual programmes can be found on the graduate prospectus. The equivalent qualifications from China can be found below:

 

Upper second-class (2:1)

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall average mark of 85%. Please note that a number of programmes / departments will require higher marks.

 

Lower second-class (2:2)

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall average mark of 80%. Please note that a number of programmes / departments will require higher marks.
